Stanwick Lakes

I am the resident wood-artist at Stanwick Lakes and there are a number of my pieces to be seen in various locations around the park.

I am also often at the park working on new projects – come and say hello if you see me there… or contact me to ask when and where I am working if you want to be sure of meeting me.

Carvings to look out for at Stanwick Lakes include the Celtic  imagery around the entrance to the replica Iron Age roundhouse; a roof column in the Heritage Barn, featuring the Oak and Holly kings from Pagan mythology carved on opposite faces; the Green Man carving created for BBC Countryfile in 2021…

… and fun animal sculptures on the children’s play area and elsewhere. More carvings are planned for the future, so keep watching out.

My current project: re-creating a piece that was originally carved several years ago by a friend of mine who was the resident carver at another country park. It represents the dragon front of a Viking longboat. Sadly, the piece is now split, broken, and rotting; and the original carver is no longer with us.

I am carving a similar design from a smaller piece of Oak, sourced from woodland work at Stanwick Lakes. To go with it, I am also carving a tail for the stern. When finished, the two pieces will be installed in the play area, probably with an earth bank between them to represent the hull of the boat

Still a way to go yet… watch this space as the project develops!
